Mater Private Springfield
Located in the suburb of Springfield, Queensland, the Mater Springfield Hospital Campus is a newly created $85 million facility, which provides both medical and surgical services to the greater Springfield community.
The facility’s newly completed Stage 1, is part of a larger plan for future expansion, and incorporates a user-centered design approach which gives patient experience key consideration.
Among design features such as integrated room control, allowing patients to control light, privacy and temperature, wayfinding was a considered component of both patient experience and building functionality.
Here, Dotdash have provided a wayfinding strategy, which considers the long term expansion of the whole campus, providing a design approach which is clean, contemporary and adaptable to future change.
Particular sign types have been designed with removable panels to allow for these changes, these include all external vehicular directional signs, maps and lift directories.
A holistic naming system was developed to allow for easy extrapolation and application throughout the expanding campus.
Further, static signage plays a role within a larger wayfinding strategy, one which incorporates engagement with hospital staff, printed communication media such as appointment letters, and online information to collectively assist in the wayfinding process.
