One path, connecting many
The Coastal Pathway spans 90 kilometres along the Sunshine Coast, from Bells Creek to Tewantin. The pedestrian and cyclist corridor, while still under development, will connect the various coastal towns and regions with one another by consolidating on and off road networks into one cohesive route. The Pathway consists of 10 sections or regions and will be implemented segment by segment.
The wayfinding strategy was to create one identifiable pathway with a family of sign types, colours and materials applied to the whole route. Segmenting the route coupled with a clear Coastal Pathway character promotes the notion of a ‘community of communities’ where each region can foster ownership over their section of the path while simultaneously threading them all together.
Key signs bookending the start and finish of each portion of the Pathway, along with route markers and a pedestrian focused map empower the traveller to take on more and more of the Pathway each time. The map illustrates the whole geographic area while highlighting the local precinct, giving the user a clear mental map of the whole network.
