A Tough Act to Follow
Designed by Cox Architects, the Cairns Performing Arts Centre comprises a 941 seat main auditorium, foyer, bar area, public amenities and studio theatre that can double as a 400-seat performance space, rehearsal, warm-up area change rooms and covered loading bay.
Our communication strategy for Cairns Performing Arts Centre focused on the wayfinding needs of the Consumer – Front of House, and the Creator – Back of House. FOH including pedestrian and vehicular site entry and exit was defined, as directed by the architecture – calm and classic. BOH which was treated as directed by performance – bursting with energy.
The sign family form carries cues from the architects’ angular foyer planes. Messages are simple, yet skilfully communicated through the typography in a way that creates a distinctive dynamic between environments.
