The same yet different
Assistance dogs arriving to or from the Brisbane Airport now have the freedom of being able to relieve themselves in their own bathroom when traveling. In an effort to enhance the travel experience for people with disabilities, the Brisbane Airport Corporation has installed Australia’s first dedicated animal bathrooms in the International and Domestic Terminal. Passengers with assistance animals no longer have to bear the inconvenience of leaving the terminal and trudging through security screening every time nature calls.
Dotdash was brought on board to design a bold yet welcoming graphic treatment to the exterior of the facility, one consistent with the look and feel of the BAC brand guidelines. The design needed to raise public awareness of the facility’s availability but also cast a playful light on a necessary - formerly cumbersome - routine of travel.
The very existence of an exclusive animal assistance area projects a statement that all passengers should have access to the same standard of amenities, because “all passengers are different” as they all have different needs. The design conveys a message of inclusion and intimacy in a busy airport environment where hundreds of people pass through everyday. And likely unbeknownst to the animals, the facility acknowledges the dedication and care of each dog.
